Xbox Live

June 22nd, 2009

I love gaming, and try to jump online when ever I get the chance. I currently own a Xbox 360 with about a dozen games. I do play online alot and currently I’m playing Call of Duty: World at War, and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. Offline games that I’m working through include Fallout 3 and The Orange Box.

RRoD

My first RRoD :(

So, has my Xbox 360 console been affected by the RRoD?? Um, yes, and 3 times in the last year. The first and second times both happened in May 2008 about 2 week apart from each other. I just got it back from the first repair and had it for a week before it RRoD again. The third time happened in Janurary of 2009. All 3 times I recieved a 1 month free trial to Xbox Live Gold which has saved me about $30 or so.

When I recieved my console back from it’s latest journey, I noticed that the DVD drive has been replaced and is now one of the newer faster and quieter models. I’m not exactly sure which one it is, but it sure is a lot quicker!!

All in all, I’m extremly happy with my Xbox 360. I wouldn’t trade it for Wii or the Playstation 3. The experience is awesome and the online gaming is great. My only gripe is that the Xbox Live Marketplace for Australia is lacking majorly compared to the US and the UK, yet we pay the same for our gold subscriptions. On the hardware side, it’s good to see that Microsoft have acknoledged that there are problems with some of the earlier models, and have extended the warranty for RRoD related problems to 3 years (all other problems still have the 1 year warranty). Also good to see that newer versions of the Xbox 360 are improved and suffer a lot less from the RRoD.
