New Theme: iNove
Ok, so the default theme for WordPress (kubrick) looks good, and has served well, but it’s time for something new. I have just stumbled upon this one called iNove (English translation). So far I’m liking it, so we’ll see how things go.
Site Update
I imported all the content from my previous host, so everything should appear as normal. I’m still using the default theme for now as that is the least of worries for now. Besides, I don’t really mine it. :p
I’m going to be implementing a few new changes around here, the first of which has already been applied. Post that are older the 60 days will have commenting disabled. Who really comments on old posts anyway?? I’ve noticed no one except for spammers, so this will cut that down. I’ve also installed WP Super Cache, but have it running in Half-On mode so mobile users wont be affected.
That is all for now. Other changes will be announced as they are implemented.
Once everything has settled down and things are back to normal, I’m now planing to get back into blogging a bit, so do stay tunned and keep watching this blog.
Move Complete
Ok, so I’ve made the change to my new host. There was a temp page up that some of you may have seen. I’ve installed WordPress, as you can see, so everything should start working fine again.
If anyone has any good ideas for themes, please leave a comment below with your suggestions. I’m thinking of going back to using k2, but I’m starting to get a bit sick of it.
Oh, also let me know if you notice any difference in speed. I’m interested to see now that this is hosted in Melbourne, Australia, rather then in Los Angeles, USA.
WordPress 2.7
I have just updated this site to WordPress 2.7. So far it seems to be pretty good. The new dashboard is really growing on me, and I love how it has the “Right Now” section showing some stats like how many posts, pages, comments, and spam.
There is also this new thing called QuickPress which allows you to quickly add a new post without having to go to the full new post page. It’s pretty handy.
Now, I just hope that the team over at Automattic release an update to their WordPress app for the iPhone that interacts with WordPress alot more rather then allowing you to make a post. It would be good to be able to moderate comments and spam, upload photos to your blog, etc.
If you are yet to update to 2.7, then go and do it. It’s worth it. If you have already updated, what do you think of it?
Back to 2 colums
As much as I have loved the single column layout provided by K2, I have found it to be rather annoying having to scroll to the bottom all the time, and I have grown to love my sidebar, so I have gone back to the default 2 columns. This also allows me to show a few things on my sidebar when someone visits this blog like my Facebook status and my Xbox Live gamercard.
I ♥ K2
Since I came across the K2 theme for WordPress back in the day when it was still in Beta 1, I haven’t used any other theme. Since then, I’ve learnt a heap about CSS and PHP, though I still have a long way to go, but I have managed to do a few mods and hacks to my blog over the years. One mod that I’ve been wanting to do is a single column layout with possible some content on the bottom. I’ve tried over the years to do this, but I always seem to loose interest and don’t end up doing anything.
Today I installed the latest release of K2, Release Candidate 3, and to my surprise in the settings there was an option for 1 column. I tried this out and instantly thought, that’s what I’ve been wanting!! The other good thing is that having this built into K2 is that I can now use the K2 module system for the sidebars.
I don’t know how long this single column feature has been implemented into K, but it was a nice surprise.
Restarting… New blog in 3… 2… 1…
Ah, here we go.
First of all, I’d like to apologise for anyone that has come here looking for something specific. The old database for my blog has started to get a tonne of errors, so I decided it was time to start fresh. The old database has lasted since day one when I started this site, and has seen 3 different servers in it’s time.
I’m planning on going through a backup of my database and collecting some of my more usefull posts and adding them back into this blog, as well, as a few visual changes, but for now we will have to live with what’s here for now.
